About ILEX and our BRANCH

The Institute of Legal Executives is the professional body for Legal Executives. Legal Executives are now recognized as the third arm of the Law alongside Barristers and Solicitors.

To become a Legal Executive you have to undertake a period of study, whether full time or part time at a recognized College undertaking official ILEX courses, or by home study through the Ilex Tutorial College.

A student member studying for ILEX exams must join as a student member of the Institute of Legal Executives and once they have passed the final stage of academic study they can then go on to become a Member of ILEX and will be entitled to use the designatory letters M.Inst.L.Ex . Members who wish to qualify as Fellows must be qualified for a period of 2 years as a Member and be engaged in qualifying employment as set out in the Institutes guidelines. Fellows are entitled to use the designatory letters F.Inst. L.Ex.

Once qualified as a Fellow, the Fellow has the opportunity to attend a Graduation Ceremony organized by the Institute of Legal Executives to celebrate their success and to award them this prestigious title.

Fellows can, if they wish, go on to further study to become a Solicitor.

Birmingham Branch

The Birmingham Branch of the Institute of Legal Executives is only one branch of many scattered around both the United Kingdom and indeed Worldwide. The branch is dedicated to promoting the Institute and to encourage and assist Students, Members and Fellows of the Institute to take part in further study, social events, continuing professional development and a whole host of other activities.

We at the Birmingham Branch hold a number of social events throughout the year, the most prestigious one being our Annual Ball at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. Year after year we have had great success with our Ball which is now a key event in the ILEX calendar.

Each year we nominate a charity to support and the National Five-A-Side Football Tournament is our main event for raising funds.  Over the years we have raised thousands of pounds for both local and national charities.

The Branch Academic Committee is committed to providing students with help and assistance during their study.  We hold annual revision days before the Summer Examinations and have close links with all the colleges within the West Midlands area.

We also strive to arrange Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses to enable our members to gain CPD points for the year at reasonable cost and within easy reach of their workplaces
